SUMMER FITNESS

In the interest of public safety, DTSB made the decision to cancel their signature events from now until the July 3rd First Fridays. This decision was made in close collaboration with the St. Joseph County Department of Health, following their input and recommendations. DTSB plans to remain in contact with public health officials and is prepared for the possibility of canceling future events if advised to do so. Once events resume, DTSB will make sure to adhere to any new event safety guidelines that may be in place due to continued COVID-19 preventative measures.

Free Yoga, Zumba & More!

WHEN: Every Saturday July 4 – August 29

TIME: 8:00 a.m.: Yoga  |  9:00 a.m.: Zumba  |  10:00 a.m.: Fit Camp/Boot Camp/Barre/Cardio

DTSB has partnered with local fitness organizations to provide a free outdoor summer fitness program at the Gridiron in downtown South Bend every Saturday morning to encourage healthy living. These free classes, begin at 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 10:00 a.m., include a mix of yoga, Zumba, cardio dance, Grit, Barre, and more.

All classes are held on the Gridiron in downtown South Bend, weather permitting.

Classes are led by professional instructors from local health and fitness centers, as well as independent instructors.

Participants should dress in appropriate clothing and footwear, and bring adequate fluids. Free parking is available on the street and in the garage at Leighton Center.

Important information regarding changes to the Summer Fitness Series for 2020!

In an effort to make DTSB events as safe as possible during the pandemic, the following changes have been made to this year's Summer Fitness Series:

  • Class size will be limited to 50 participants a class, and advanced registration will be required for guaranteed participation.

  • 10-foot circles will be marked on the Gridiron, 6 feet apart from each other.

  • These 50 circles will be available to registered participants, first-come, first serve.

  • Check-in for registered participants will begin 10 minutes prior to each class, and those who do not arrive at the start time of the class will forfeit their spot to walk-up participants.

  • Walk-up participants will not be guaranteed a spot, and no one is permitted to exercise in a non-circle area.

  • Masks are encouraged, but not required.

  • Participants experiencing any symptom of illness such as cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell should not attend this event.

  • Registration will open every Monday at noon for the Saturday classes taking place that week.

  • Participants will need to register for each class they wish to participate in. Registration is free and can be done online using the link below.

  • Participants will sign a waiver during the online registration process to make the in-person check-in as contactless as possible.

  • In the event of rain, classes will be canceled instead of moving to the garage as there is not enough space there to distance the 50 registered participants. Cancellations for rain will be announced on the DTSB Facebook page.

  • Mat rentals will not be available this summer.

  • Hand sanitizer and bottled water will be made available.

ADDITIONAL SUMMER FITNESS OPPORTUNITIES IN DOWNTOWN SOUTH BEND

Beacon Health & Fitness is a medically-based, full-service fitness facility located in the heart of downtown South Bend. Their group exercise program includes a wide array of classes such as yoga, grit, water in motion, pilates and much more.

CitiWalk - This free program meets in the lobby of Beacon Health & Fitness (111 W. Jefferson Blvd.) but is open to members and non-members alike! These 60-minute walks take place every Monday at noon and Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with a new and interesting stop each week.

Kroc Center offers group fitness classes that are designed to promote a fun workout experience with professional instructors and energetic classmates. They have over 15,000 square feet of state-of-the-art weight training equipment and cardiovascular machines.  A sample of the Kroc Center’s group fitness programs include: Zumba, Indoor Cycling, Aqua Aerobics, Power Kick, Yoga, and Pilates.
