FOOTBALL FRIDAYS

November 5, 2021

2020 November First Fridays information appears below. 2021 information coming soon!

This is a two-in-one event! We're combining First Fridays with Football Fridays!

Football Fridays is a FREE family-friendly tailgate party on the Gridiron which takes place the Fridays before each Notre Dame home football game, with live music, a cash bar, yard games, and a physically-distanced seating area to enjoy downtown carryout!

The public is encouraged to wear their ND apparel, grab carryout from a downtown eatery and enjoy it at a special physically-distanced seating area that will be set up on the Gridiron. The November 6 Football Fridays event will feature live by the Jerry O'Fonics Band from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and a cash bar provided by the Courtyard by Marriott South Bend Downtown.

The Gridiron

Football Fridays is a FREE family-friendly tailgate party on the Gridiron which takes place the Fridays before each Notre Dame home football game, with live music, a cash bar, yard games, and a physically-distanced seating area to enjoy downtown carryout!

Football Fridays is hosted by the Courtyard by Marriott South Bend Downtown, in partnership with Downtown South Bend, Inc. and Visit South Bend Mishawaka.

The public is encouraged to wear their ND apparel (and also to wear green as the Irish are calling for a Green Out at the game on November 7th #IrishWearGreen), grab carryout from a downtown eatery and enjoy it at a special physically-distanced seating area that will be set up on the Gridiron. The November 6 Football Fridays event will feature live by the Jerry O'Fonics Band from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and a cash bar provided by the Courtyard by Marriott South Bend Downtown.

The AFCA Coaches’ Trophy, presented by Amway, will be on display at this Football Fridays. This is the sixth stop of a multi-city tour throughout this college football season, during which fans will have the opportunity to see and take socially distanced photos with the Coaches’ Trophy. This trophy is awarded to the National Champion and No. 1 ranked team in the Amway Coaches Poll at the conclusion of the college football season.

Click here to view a full list of downtown carryout options. Tables and chairs will be cleaned by DTSB Ambassadors throughout the event, and hand sanitizer will be available. Masks will be required except when eating or drinking, and anyone experiencing symptoms of illness is encouraged to stay home.

Football Fridays is presented by the Courtyard by Marriott South Bend Downtown, JSK Hospitality, Downtown South Bend, Inc. and Visit South Bend Mishawaka. Additional sponsorship is provided by U93, EventSys, and Synergy Insurance Group.

Octet at the South Bend Museum of Art

5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

120 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The South Bend Museum of Art and the South Bend Symphony Orchestra are teaming up to present Octet this First Fridays. Octet is this: eight musicians record as a small, socially distanced ensemble. After a sound engineer channels each musician through a unique speaker, the system is set in a large circle giving listeners the freedom to explore each instrumentalist’s part, or stand centrally in the space and experience the music comprehensively. The project employed South Bend Symphony Orchestra musicians during a time of severely limited work opportunities, and the high-fidelity speakers and immersive soundscape offer patrons a completely new perspective on music.

DTSB Fall Photo Op

217 S. Michigan St.

Take some fun photos and post them using #DTSBFallFun. Special thanks to Matthys Farm Market for helping supply the fall items!

Transforming South Bend: First Fridays Innovation Conversations

12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Live-streamed here

For the past four years, the Center for a Sustainable Future has held a series of 8-12 weeks of individual talks in the Sustainability & Innovation Series. They are now being held on the First Fridays of each month, a perfect tie-in to DTSB First Fridays activities and great fuel for First Fridays conversations!

Throughout the 2020-2021 academic year, the Center will showcase incredible local sustainability and innovation leaders to share how and why they are working to transform South Bend and the greater region into an innovative and sustainable place.

The theme of the talks is “Seeing Systems,” which invites speakers to make and share connections between social justice, sustainability, community building, peace building efforts, and more.

Join in on First Friday Innovation Conversations each First Friday from noon to 12:30 p.m. Listen in and share comments and questions on YouTube to join the conversations every first Friday at noon from wherever you are that day!
