August First Fridays - a Signature Event for Best. Week. Ever. - will have a “Flashback Friday” theme, celebrating the 80's and other past decades with a special concert in the street by The 1985, a Studebaker Car Show, and a Retro ROC UR BODY! Attendees are encouraged to dress up in vintage and retro clothing and head downtown for a full night of flashback fun.

We will be once again be closing down the 200 block of S. Michigan St. for a block party, encouraging people to grab some takeout from their favorite downtown eatery and enjoy it at the distanced seating area in the street. Other exciting First Fridays additions will be the return of Meet Me on the Island, rides on the Boilermaker Special, a Chicory Shrimp Boil, the return of the Stella Airstream, a fireworks show, and more!

Parking (on-street and in City-managed garages) is always free in downtown South Bend nights and weekends.  For full details on downtown parking options, click here


Michigan Street between Jefferson and Wayne: noon to 11:00 p.m.

Washington Street between Michigan and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr.: noon to 10:30 p.m.

Colfax Bridge: 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Jefferson Bridge: noon to midnight


Will take place at 10:00 p.m. from the Jefferson Bridge. The best places to view the fireworks are Colfax bridge, Pier Park, Meet Me On The Island.

Concert by The 1985 & Urban Picnic on Michigan Street

5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

200 Block of South Michigan Street


DTSB will be repeating the Urban Picnic that took place for for last summer's First Fridays, and closing down a block of Michigan Street for physically-distanced dining and a free concert by The 1985 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wear your retro/vintage clothing and join in the fun!

The Spotlight Performers will also be featured on the block party stage from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Grab some takeout from your favorite downtown eatery and head to the 200 block of S. Michigan St. (between Jefferson and Wayne) where we will have a physically-distanced seating areas in the street with beer from the Stella Airstream, vendors, Studebaker cars, and more! The seating areas will be open to people of all ages, and will be located in the south end of the block.

Tables and chairs will be cleaned by DTSB Ambassadors throughout the event, and hand sanitizer will be available. We will be following CDC Guidelines on mask usage: vaccinated participants will not be required to wear a mask, but mask usage will be recommended for non-vaccinated participants.

Wear your 80s or other retro styles and enter to win! PHP will be passing out business cards to enter the Costume Contest. Entering is easy! Tag Downtown South Bend and PHP (@phpni) on social media. Then DTSB will set up a Facebook album and a photo will be chosen at random to win the prize.

Summer Camp Pop-Up Gallery

The Summer Camp Pop-Up Gallery will spotlight work from the South Bend Museum of Art's young summer camp artists at the end of an exploratory week creating community while learning new concepts and techniques with teaching artists in SBMA studios.

Guided Architectural Walking Tours of Downtown - FULL

 Enjoy a fun and informative guided walking tour of South Bend landmark buildings, exploring their history and present day use.

The tours cover over twenty historical buildings and more than a half-dozen city blocks in the heart of downtown South Bend. Tours are $5 per person (cash only) with reservations requested for each tour. Reservations can be made online here or by calling Downtown South Bend at 574-282-1110. Tours start at the American Trust Company clock, located at the corner of Washington St. and Michigan St., in front of Cafe Navarre.

Meet Me On The Island is back! The South Bend Museum of Art has missed being with you for art, music, food, drink, dancing, fireworks and conversation, and look forward to seeing you at its first event since 2019. They are bringing back a favorite band, The Shake N’ Chill Blues Band.

 For an accurate count of event attendees, The South Bend Museum of Art is pre-selling tickets for the nominal charge of $10.

Meet South Bend Alive Grantees

Key Bank Plaza

The IMPower Center and South Bend Community Initiatives will be featuring the "Alive & Free" Grantees in Key Bank Plaza. The South Bend Alive grant program is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to reduce incidents of gun violence in the community and provide constructive initiatives for South Bend’s young people. The program, managed by the Office of Community Initiatives, focuses on funding community-based initiatives that provide mentorship for young people, help connect youth with employment training and opportunities, and conduct community outreach and youth engagement activities.

Solve a hilarious mystery while you feast on a fantastic dinner. Just beware! The culprit is hiding in plain sight somewhere in the room, and you may find yourself as a Prime Suspect before you know it!


This will be very different from a traditional murder mystery dinner show. The actors are not dressed in costume and are hidden in the audience! This results in a fun, social and interactive evening suitable for all adults. Each ticket includes our signature award-winning murder mystery dinner theatre show, along with a full plated dinner, waitstaff gratuity, and plenty of surprises during the show.

Howard Park

Howard Park is hosting its first of many to come art shows. Entwined: Storytelling Through Fiber Art, will launch on August 5 and end on August 28. Viewers can expect a series of art featured by speakers who will teach people over the history of fiber art and its effect on marginalized women. Art by female artists regarding social issues will be featured.

Fridays by the Fountain

Fridays by Fountain is a free outdoor lunchtime concert series with a variety of music from local blues, jazz, rock, folk, and country bands. Food vendors are available, offering a variety of lunchtime favorites or you may choose to bring your own. Tables are set in and around the plaza to give concertgoers a space to eat or bring a blanket and relax on the lawn.

The August 6th Fridays by the Fountain concert will feature PT & The Cruisers.
