Downtown South Bend will be alive with art for the August First Fridays, which will serve as a sneak preview of DTSB 2019 Art Beat! We will be showcasing some of the visual and performing artists who will be participating in this year’s Art Beat with Art Walk, plus live performances and the Free Art Friday scavenger hunt.

Plus, as always, enjoy live music, art exhibits, dining specials, and much more. Check out all the details below!

 

FREE PARKING

Parking (on-street and in DTSB-managed garages) is always free in downtown South Bend nights and weekends.  For full details on downtown parking options, click here

FREE TRANSPO SHUTTLE

 

As always, Transpo will be offering FREE shuttle rides on one of their new CNG buses from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Click here for a map of the shuttle route. Transpo shuttle service will pass each stop approximately every 15 minutes.

The shuttle service now has First Fridays Tour Guides! They will tell you all about the different activities and promotions taking place downtown at First Fridays, as well as give general info about the downtown businesses, mixed with historical tidbits and fun facts. Grab a seat on the new First Fridays Transpo Tour, and enjoy the informative ride!

As a special treat, The Music Village Jammers will be performing on the First Fridays shuttle from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Stella Artois Garden Party

4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

The Gridiron

 

Sit back, relax and enjoy our Garden Party with a Stella Artois in its signature chalice glass (which you get to keep!) Also, there will be yard games such as corn hole and badminton. Enjoy this event with the whole family!

Outside the Airstream, guests can sip their brew, socialize, and enjoy all the festivities at the tables and couches. There will be an opportunity to capture this Instagram worthy event. Plus enjoy live music by Doug Harsh from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Slow Orbit from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The Gridiron will be filled with many other activities and vendors, including: U93, ND Athletics, Behind the Mask Face Painting, Relay For Life Big Chair, Exclusive Event Experiences, iLEAD, Renewals by Anderson, Blu Envy, Ever Fluorescent, Marcy’s Bling, Rejuvia Travel, Cricket Wireless, Angel Security, and Legion of Mary (5-8 pm)

Many of the talented performance artists who will be appearing at Art Beat 2019 will be at this First Fridays at Studebaker Plaza and the Gridiron so you can get a sneak peek at the entertainment for this year’s Art Beat. Here is a schedule of these free performances:

Downtown South Bend

Art Walk transforms Downtown South Bend into a walking art gallery. Art Beat visual artists will have their work in downtown storefront windows, and Art Walkers will be able to enjoy local art while strolling through the downtown area. An Art Walk map can be found listing artists and locations can be found online by clicking here, and paper maps will be at First Fridays.  Art Walk exhibits open August 2nd during First Fridays and will remain up through August 10th.

Free Art Friday Scavenger Hunt

Downtown South Bend

The Free Art Friday scavenger hunt is back! Art Beat artists are donating pieces of their art work and you have a chance to win them! Clues will be posted on the First Fridays Facebook event page throughout the night Friday. Figure out which business the clue is referring to, be the first one to get there and ask for the art, and you get to keep it! 

Winners are encouraged to take a picture with their prize at the location they found it, and post to the event page with #dtsbff.

Laura Whidden at South Bend Chocolate Cafe

Meet Me on the Island

WVPE and the South Bend Museum of Art team up to put on a series of South Bend's best summer events - Meet Me on the Island. The Island behind Century Center is an amazing place for a party filled with music, food, drink, and fine art. $5 or free to all WVPE and SBMA members (kids 12 & under also free.) "Shake N' Chill" will provide live music.

Fantastic Friday Fireworks - Stick around after the game for the biggest, most spectacular fireworks show in Michiana!

Home Run for Life - The South Bend Cubs will honor a patient from Beacon Children's Hospital and he/she will get to run the bases during the game.

Architectural Walking Tour

6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Enjoy a fun and informative guided walking tour of South Bend landmark buildings, exploring their history and present day use. The June tour will also feature a costumed tour guide and a special look inside some of the tour sites.

The tours cover over twenty historical buildings and more than a half-dozen city blocks in the heart of downtown South Bend. Tours are $4 per person (cash only) with reservations requested for each tour. Reservations can be made online here or by calling Downtown South Bend at 574-282-1110. Tours start at the American Trust Company clock, located at the corner of Washington St. and Michigan St., in front of Cafe Navarre. 

Coloring at NDFCU

Latin Dance Party

Studebaker Plaza

South Bend Latin Dance is returning to Studebaker Plaza for the summer for their First Fridays Latin Dance Parties! This event is open to all ages and skill levels, and includes a half-hour lesson at 8:30 p.m., followed by open dancing until 11:00 p.m. $5 cover.

Drug Awareness Trailer
