Baker & Rose Cafe Opens In South Bend

Baker & Rose Cafe opened May 31st in the Emporium Building. The cafe was created by brother and sister duo, Kevin and Colleen Lawley, who after much traveling and overcoming picky eating, wish to bring unique combinations of flavor and local ingredients to the South Bend community.

The Lawleys moved from Portland, Oregon to South Bend in the last couple years, and so the name Baker and Rose comes from a combination of “baker” from Studebaker, and their hometown of Portland, also known as the Rose City.

Baker and Rose is open for breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch. It offers a small menu of about 10 items, some seasonal and some staples that last the whole year. The menu takes meals that everyone loves but adds unexpected ingredients for little pops of flavor. These meals include ricotta toast with blueberry-lavender jam, chai-spiced mini-biscuits, and grilled cheese with kimchi.

Now that it is almost Summer, the cafe allows customers to rent frisbees and picnic baskets, so they can enjoy good weather, food, and activities across the street at Howard Park.

Baker and Rose is found at 121 S. Niles Ave, in The Emporium Building.

They are open 8 AM - 3 PM Monday-Friday. Like them on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter and Instagram @bakerandrose.
