Chicory Café celebrates new extended hours with Fat Tuesday festivities

January 31, 2013 — Fat Tuesday is a day to feast before the fasting Lenten season begins, and downtown South Bend is home to the official Mardi Gras Party. Chicory Café will be hosting a special Fat Tuesday event on February 12, 2013 with special business hours from 6:30am – 12am. Stop inside Chicory Café, adorn yourself with Mardi Gras beads, and indulge in your traditional Cajun favorites like authentic jambalaya, muffuletta sandwiches, tasty beignets, and an assortment of spirited coffee specials. The sounds of Bourbon Street will be alive in the Café all day: Marian Emery will be filling the café with smooth Jazz piano during the lunch hours and Chris French will liven up your evening with traditional Dixieland Jazz.

This Fat Tuesday celebration also kicks off Chicory Café’s new extended business hours. Upon the recent receipt of their Municipal Riverfront District Liquor License, owners Phil & Julie Schreiber will extend regular business hours from the previous 6:30am-5pm, to the new 6:30am-10pm Monday through Saturday. “We are excited about the energy that is occurring downtown. More and more people are choosing to patronize local businesses. Downtown is on an upswing and we want Chicory to be an important part of that,” says Schreiber. “We hope Chicory will become everyone’s first stop for their night out in downtown. With the addition of the drinks with spirits, extended hours, and live music, we think Chicory will be the perfect place to achieve that,” he adds. In addition to extended business hours, the café will be host to regular events including half-price wine nights, Jazz piano evenings, beer tastings, traditional New Orleans drink specials, and live music every Friday from 7-10pm.

The Schreibers not only plan to make Chicory the place to relax, with unique spirited drinks and live music, but also a place where you can learn a thing or two. The café will offer “Education Nights” on Thursdays where the public can taste and learn about wine, liquor, ales, lagers, and more. “We want to team up with Citywide Liquors, who hosts beer and wine tastings on Thursdays next door to us. By partnering with them, we can refer customers to each other and also create a stronger offering of a Thursday night experience to our patrons.”

The Fat Tuesday celebration will begin when café doors open at 6:30 am on Tuesday, February 12 and will end at midnight. For more information contact Chicory Café at 574-234-1141, check out their website, or find them on Facebook!/thechicorycafe.
