Meet Me on the Island! Takes Over Island Park at Century Center

June 28, 2012 — “This is a tremendous event people look forward to each summer,” said South Bend Museum of Art’s Peg Luecke. “Meet Me on the Island draws people from all over Michiana.”

Browse local artwork for sale by selected area artists, enjoy libations and move to the rhythm and blues stylings of Darryl Buchanan and the Reflections. A South Bend native, Buchanan was discovered and recruited by Motown’s legendary sax man, Junior Walker, with whom he toured the United States, Canada and Europe as the opening act; their last performance was at New York’s famed Apollo Theatre, before Walker’s untimely death in 1995.

Buchanan has performed on numerous TV shows including NBC’s Saturday Night Live and Good Morning America and with many legendary R&B artists. His musical talents and stage persona have earned him popularity with diverse crowds worldwide. Vocalist Johnny “JD” Davis and the Band The Reflections join in, creating superb vocal harmonies.

This event is part of 88.1 WVPE’s 2012 IU Health Goshen Hospital Event Series, underwritten by Center for Hospice Foundation and Indiana Michigan Power and in association with Century Center and Centerplate.

The event takes place this Friday, June 29, 5:30pm – 9:00pm on Island Park behind Century Center. Tickets are $5 at the gate, children 12 and under are free. For more information, visit www.southbendart.org or call 574-235-9102.
