Post All Bills: Art Inspired by the Street

June 11, 2012 — “Post All Bills” is an exhibition dedicated to public art that is made for the street — stenciling, tagging, wheatpasting, street posters, yarn bombing, sticker art, and mural painting. Expect to see work inside and outside the gallery in this unique exhibition of Indiana-based artists who use the street art movement’s aesthetic and principles in their artistic practice. The show runs July 5th through August 26th at Artpost Gallery, 216 W. Madison St., South Bend, IN.

Street art and graffiti are essentially about claiming public space as a place for artistic expression. Often controversial, over the last 50 years this movement has been embraced by the art world, and is often appropriated by the commercial design and advertising fields. The art in “Post All Bills” has many influences, including popular culture, ancient culture, language, skateboarding, and hip hop.

Artists exhibiting include: Maclovio Cantú IV, grow, IZEK, Stacie Jeffirs, RESOE CSG, Federico Rodriguez, and Jason Schoppe (South Bend, IN); David Ebbinghouse (Bloomington, IN); SES74 (Elkhart, IN); cost (Fort Wayne, IN); epyon5 (Gary, IN); Traz Juarez, Felix Maldonado/FLEX, Ish Muhammad Nieves, Luis Sandoval/OCHO, Socrates Sandoval/ARGUE (Hammond, IN); Christian Brock Forrer (Indianapolis, IN); and Jason Rowland (Winona Lake, IN).

The opening reception on Friday, July 6th, 5-9 pm, will feature live mural painting by CISA (Crazy IN Style Artists) members Felix Maldonado/FLEX and Ish Muhammad Nieves outside the gallery. Music by Dj Soul Tronixx and 8-bit from 7-9 pm.
